Bringing neighbors together to build
a vibrant, thriving community.

About

The Polish Hill neighborhood is an enclave of hilltop houses and small businesses nestled along a nearly vertical quarter-mile expanse just east of downtown Pittsburgh and rising above the Strip District.

The PHCA’s mission is to respect and preserve the sense of community in Polish Hill while promoting economic and housing development opportunities, and improving the quality of life for our community.

The Polish Hill Civic Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in September 1969. We are an all volunteer organization and one of the oldest community-based groups in Pittsburgh.

Committees & Projects

Housing & Development

We’re working to create affordable housing in the neighborhood, protect our infrastructure and maintain the neighborhood’s character in the face several proposed development projects. We also help identify resources for current homeowners and renters to help ensure quality housing for everyone in Polish Hill.

Green Team

The Green Team manages three community gardens, and coordinates volunteers to clean and maintain more than eight City-owned parklets, City steps and other green spaces. In recognition for our volunteer efforts to clean and green the neighborhood, the PHCA won the 2012 Bob Award for Neighborhood of the Year from the Clean Pittsburgh Commission.

Safety & Mobility

Working to improve the safety and accessibility of our roads and sidewalks for everyone.

Arts & Events

Working to promote arts and our local artist community in fun and engaging ways, including the Polish Hill Arts Fest. The Fest has traditionally been one of the city’s most creative and unique summer festivals, showcasing artists from the neighborhood and across the city along with live music, local food vendors and activities for kids of all ages.

Family Engagement

Creating events, activities and resources to support the awesome kids and families in the neighborhood.

War Veterans Monument

Community members maintain, decorate and preserve the War Veterans Monument at Brereton and Dobson.

Community Meetings

Our Community Meetings are (typically) the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm at West Penn Rec Center. We usually take off July and August. Meeting Agendas & Minutes here.
